Student Selection Process

Applicants and their families must show a strong interest and commitment to the student’s education. The student selection process, which is implemented during the middle months of the applicant’s 8th grade year, is designed to identify students whose needs might be best served by the MetEast philosophy. The Principal and the admission team will review each application and interview all prospective students and their families.

Then, applicants meeting the selection criteria who have submitted completed applications are placed in the Qualified Candidate group and enrolled in the school based on a lottery system. Final admission is granted to those students who successfully complete the Summer Infusion.

The following criteria have been established as guidelines for the selection process:

Student applicants and their families MUST be residents of Camden city.
Each family must complete the MetEast High School Application, which includes student information, parental permission, recommendations, and short essays.
Applicants must submit a minimum of two recommendations as a part of the application process: one from the student’s current teacher, guidance counselor, or principal, and the second from a parent or responsible adult (Be sure to include contact information).
Families must undergo a personal interview with the admissions team as the final step in the application process.
All interviews begin in early April. The lottery will take place on the last Friday in May and selected candidates are notified the following week.
